You broke the grip of hunger in Jana’s home
Thanks to you, she could buy groceries and give her children a measure of stability during a difficult time

Imagine fleeing for your life—only to face hunger in a new country. That was Jana’s reality. A newcomer and a mother, she and her two children had escaped domestic violence. But when they arrived in Canada, safety was clouded by empty cupboards and anxious little ones asking for food.
Because you care, the grip of hunger was broken in Jana’s home
She found Catholic Family Services of Durham (CFSD), an agency you support through ShareLife. CFSD is also a 2025 ShareLife Food Security Grants recipient, through which they were able to help Jana buy groceries and give her children a measure of stability during a difficult time.
“I cannot thank you enough for the help you gave me,” Jana shared. “I was so happy to have the things my two little ones need and want, and I felt like I won some kind of lottery.”
Many parents are walking through our agencies’ doors, still struggling with hunger on top of everything else they carry. As more families flee domestic violence and face hunger, you make it possible for them to find healing, dignity, and the strength to start anew.
