Savouring life
How accessibility restored Erika’s joy

Erika had a stroke six years ago that left her with left-sided weakness. Since her stroke, Erika stopped enjoying many of the daily activities that we all take for granted.
Last summer, LA Centre for Active Living planned a trip to the Garlic Festival. Erika really wanted to attend, but felt her disabilities would get in the way.
They never gave up on her
The agency worked with Erika, her personal support worker, and the accessible public transit service to enable her to join the bus ride. They also rented a wheelchair to ensure her safety.
Erika loved the trip and said that she hadn’t had so much fun in six years! She never thought her disabilities could seemingly “disappear” such that she could still participate and have fun.
