ShareLife History
Fifty years ago, a moment of conscience changed
everything. In 1976, Archbishop Philip Pocock chose
a path rooted in faith, compassion, and a deep
respect for every human life, and soon after,
ShareLife was born.
As we mark our 50th anniversary, we honour what our
community has built together and what you have
made possible through your care for others.
Today, that same spirit lives on through your support
of more than 40 ShareLife-funded agencies. Through
your kindness, families fi nd stability, newcomers find
safety, seniors are not forgotten, young people find
hope, and those facing hunger find food on the table.

We believe that every human being is unique and priceless. We hold that human life must be respected at every stage of its development from the first mysterious moment of conception to the declining days of advanced age.”
— Archbishop Philip Pocock, A Declaration on Behalf of Life, March 19, 1976
On March 19, 1976, Archbishop Philip Pocock made a courageous declaration that would shape the mission of ShareLife for generations to come. His words affirmed the dignity of every human person and called the faithful to act in defense of life.
Nearly fifty years later, that conviction continues to guide our work. Through your faith in action, lives are upheld, dignity is protected, and hope is restored across our community and beyond.
